KiddyKeys – The Preschool Piano Program
Did you know that B Sharp School of Music has classes for preschoolers? Its true!
Kiddy Keys is a piano-based program for children between the ages of 2-1/2 and five designed to instill music appreciation and teach basic music theory concepts. My wife has recently been asked to teach the class. She received training directly from the program’s founder, whose story of how the idea came to fruition is quite remarkable.
Kris Skaletski began Kiddy Keys as a class for preschool children in her community of Green Bay, Wisconsin. As it grew she began receiving requests from individuals who wished to teach Kiddy Keys in their areas. In response Kris developed a curriculum that could be and is instituted all across the globe. Not only are the 30 minute sessions meant to be instructional, they are meant to be fun.
When it came to the blending of these two concepts, Kris took the sage advice of none-other-than Mr. Rogers, who said, “Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood.”
With Kiddy Keys at B Sharp, fun is at a premium, not to mention the fact that exposure to music at a young age can change the course of a life.
