Barb Williams has taught piano for 45 years in Ohio, California and Iowa. Recently she returned to California and is once again teaching in Lodi! Barb’s piano training began at age six and by age twelve she was accompanying for church services, school choirs and community events. Following high school, Barb graduated from Moody Bible Institute in Chicago where she majored in piano performance. Following graduation, she continued piano studies at the American Conservatory in Chicago.
While a student at MBI she accompanied the Women’s Collegiate Choir, many student soloists in their senior recitals as well as various student ensembles. It was in the role of accompanist Barb met her husband Ray and has been “accompanying” him ever since! They have been married 46 years and have three children and two grandchildren. During Barb’s 16 years in Iowa, she joined the Northeast Area Music Teachers’ Association, the Iowa State Music Teachers’ Association and the Music Teachers’ National Association.
In 2003 she earned her NCTM certification from MTNA. She served her local association in several capacities – Secretary, Scholarship Chair, President and Program Chair. She also served on the Pedagogy Workshop committee for five years. The workshop is organized for teachers around the state of Iowa and features nationally known composers and clinicians. She loves to learn from other teachers and is always looking to improve her skills, both in teaching and performing. Many of her students were District Winners in the annual IMTA Auditions. She also belongs to the National Federation of Music Clubs and participated in Federation Festival every year. She is currently preparing to join the MTAC here in California and looks forward to working with her colleagues!
Barb offers a solid classical foundation for each student but moves beyond that to offer supplemental styles tailored to each student’s interests. Her goal is for students to develop a love for and enjoyment of music that will last a lifetime! Barb loves to create original arrangements of hymns and classic praise and worship songs. She has released two CD’s and is working on a third.
